The Bonde is the name of the band formed by three talented friends: Lauriel Harte Marger, 17, LeAnetta Robinson, 17 and Alexa D’Angelo, 17. They are socially engaged through their expressive a cappella style music, which radiates a light-heartedness and is in touch with the latest teenage trends.
In view of the fact that every year more than three million girls are still mutilated, The Bonde recorded the song Behind The Lies to raise awareness of this problem. The song was released on February 6, 2010 – the International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation – and, among others, was performed live at the UN in New York.
We hope our song permeates the hearts and minds of community leaders and parents worldwide considering FGM for their daughters. When we heard about FGM we realized that as young females we could easily be 3 of the 6000 candidates undergoing dangerous genital cutting each day. We want to help at-risk girls immediately avoid FGM.
